5 Minutes with Zeshan

We recently had the honour of hosting Zeshan to carry out a work experience with the team here at Camden Giving.

Tell us a bit about yourself

Hi, my name is Zeshan. Some of my hobbies are cycling, learning new things and sleeping.

Why did you chose to do some work experience with us here at Camden Giving?

One of the reasons I love Camden is that it is a very diverse place. Wherever you go in Camden there are always people of different backgrounds whether that be on the high street or smaller areas like Somers Town and Kentish Town.

So a reason I chose to do work experience with Camden Giving is because in my opinion is that it is always good to try something new and even if you don't enjoy it at least you can gain something from it. However, doing work experience with Camden Giving was quite enjoyable since I was able to do many things that I would not have been able to do at other placements such as being able to go out and see how the grants that Camden Giving give out to the community can affect people in a positive way

Another reason I love Camden is that it is not built around how rich or poor someone or a group of people are but instead it is built by the whole community whether that be through voting or through meetings where community members can be heard, and decisions can be made not by one person but by everyone.

What did you get up to during your week with us?

This week at Camden Giving I have done a few jobs such as: helping with Plinth duplicates (removing duplicate profiles from our data collection platform); shadowing a Coffee and Chat style reporting (where past panelists - Alumni - get to catch up with a project that they funded and chat about the progress and carry out reporting) and uploading Coffee and Chat reports to Salesforce.

There were also a few other small, ad-hoc tasks that I was asked to carry out by members of the Camden Giving team.

And how did you find these tasks?

One of the reasons I found many of these tasks enjoyable is because they challenged me to navigate around new software's that I had never used before for example: Plinth, Salesforce, 360Giving, Trello and Slack.

One thing I would share with others who are interested in working in the charity sector is that much of the work you do will give you a sense of contentment and accomplishment in the sense that you have helped another person that may have been in a worse situation than you might currently be in.

Overall, working with Camden Giving was an amazing experience, the team were very welcoming and helpful.
